HUAWEI unleashes innovative new portable creativity with the MatePad Pro 12.2-inch and MatePad 12 X tablets
HUAWEI has been turning heads among digital artists and other creatives with its sleek MatePad tablets, offering great looks and creative power at sensible pricing. Now it’s going further with the launch of two highly portable new devices. The HUAWEI MatePad Pro 12.2-inch and HUAWEI MatePad 12 X combine unique aesthetic designs with gorgeous screens, great painting features and plenty of other updates.
Both tablets are designed to inspire creativity and will appeal to both professionals and beginners. The MatePad Pro 12.2 is a revolutionary new tablet experience with pro-level creative specs, while the MatePad 12 X has been designed to appeal to younger creatives with unique colours and productivity boosting features. Let’s take a deeper look.
The HUAWEI MatePad 12.2 Pro: high-end features for creative pros on the go
The MatePad 12.2 Pro is the most classic of the two new tablets, and it inspires creativity from the moment you look at it. The premium Gold version features a unique gold silk rear cover design inspired by the texture of traditional Chinese paintings. It’s a tablet that stands out immediately.
That rear cover is also immensely practical. Crafted from 0.5 mm aviation-grade glass fibre, it helps make this the lightest 12-inch tablet on the market, weighing 508g and measuring 5.5mm thick – ideal for busy creative professionals who need a highly portable device that won’t weigh them down when commuting.
The size and weight also mean it’s comfortable to hold with just one hand, leaving the other hand free to write or draw without the hassle of having to sit down at a desk when you’re on the move. The bezels are super slim, allowing creatives to get the maximum workspace out of those 12.2 inches, and there’s no camera notch taking up valuable screen space either.
The ultimate tablet display
Another big highlight for pro creatives is the new Tandem OLED PaperMatte display technology, which boasts innovative architecture to enhance brightness, contrast and colours. Nano-level pixel stacking technology doubles the 2.8K 144Hz touchscreen’s peak brightness to a massive 2,000 nits, surpassing even the iPad Pro. That means true HDR, allowing creatives to see every nuance of their work, including subtle contrasts and the glow of subjects like stars and auras.
Combined with multiple anti-glare and anti-sparkle treatments to reduce reflections, the display also allows the flexibility to work anywhere by allowing creatives to see their work at its best even in complicated lighting conditions such as under harsh sunlight on a commute or while working outdoors. The Natural Light Sensing display technology adjusts dynamically to these kinds of situations for a smooth display experience without straining the eyes.
And those pros who need precise colour accuracy are covered too. The display achieves A delta E score of under 1 for pro-level colour accuracy in both the sRGB and P3 colour gamuts and it supports P3 colour management and 10-bit colour depth, ensuring faithful colours so your work looks the way it should.
The display makes the tablet a joy for professional artists and illustrators. And other design features have artists’ convenience in mind. The HUAWEI Glide Keyboard comes included and has a dual charging and storage slot for the M-Pencil –, so no more misplacing your stylus or locating it only to find that it’s out of juice. The keyboard has also been designed to make it easy to switch between tablet and laptop mode.
As for that stylus, the 3rd generation M Pencil supports a huge 16,384 levels of pressure sensitivity while providing low latency, pixel-level accuracy, giving digital artists a smooth, realistic drawing experience that’s enhanced further by the realistic texture feature in HUAWEI’s own GoPaint App.
MatePad 12 X: a stunning tablet that will set the trend for aesthetics
The MatePad 12 X also has a totally unique look, offering an industry first: a Metallic White colour option. The shimmery pearlescent finish was accomplished by using natural mica powder. Combined with an all metal body, clean lines and glossy, gilded bezels, this tablet’s looks will be envied by all.
The 12 X sports a 12-inch PaperMatte Display with Nanoscale Anti-glare Etching Technology, which simulates the texture of paper for a wonderfully natural pen on paper feel that makes it a joy to write and create on. It’s kind to the eyes too thanks to the anti-glare technology and Nanoscale MagnetronOptical Coating, which creates clearer images while also reducing glare. This should mean less eye strain when using the screen for long periods, making it perfect for young creatives who are putting in hours of practice or for students who want to study tinto the night without the nuisance of paper notes.
Software that inspires creativity
HUAWEI MatePad tablet owners get free access to the GoPaint App, which has been inspiring beginners and pro illustrators alike. It’s user-friendly enough for kids but feature-packed enough for experienced artists with 10 editing tools, including new additions like magic wand area selection as well as over 150 realistic brushes.
The Fluid Brush renders strokes in real time, using an algorithm to simulate the fluidity of how ink spreads on paper. Meanwhile, the 15 new Splatter brushes allow users to hover the stylus over the screen to apply real-life painting techniques like spray paint, creating a sense of depth and atmosphere. With so many tools on hand, the GoPaint Apps combined with HUAWEI’s innovative new hardware gives anyone the creative versatility to realise their vision.
The HUAWEI MatePad Pro 12.2 in black with 12GB of memory, 256GB of storage and HUAWEI Glide Keyboard costs £699.99, while the 512GB version in gold costs £799.99. A special launch offer valid until 22 October includes a £100 off coupon and a free Huawei M-Pencil 3 stylus.
The HUAWEI MatePad 12X and keyboard with 12GB memory and 256GB storage in green or white costs £549.99. Again, there’s a special launch offer, this time getting you a £50 off voucher and free Huawei M-Pencil 3.
