I'm tempted to finally buy an M2 Pro MacBook Pro with this Memorial Day deal

It can be tricky to judge when to buy a new MacBook. Buying on release means paying top whack, but sometimes you can end up waiting for deals that never come. And by the time a decent saving arrives, the laptop has often already been superseded by a new model.

But I'm thinking that now may be the time to grab Apple's latest, the M2 Pro MacBook Pro, thanks to a Memorial Day deal that slashes the price of the 16in MacBook Pro M2 Pro from $2,499 to $2,249 at Amazon.

Overview: This is the lowest price we've seen on Apple's latest and biggest laptop (and the most powerful if you go for the M2 Max option). You can get bigger savings on high-spec configurations of the 2021 M1 models, but a little extra discount seems a false economy when you get a discount like this on the newest models.

Key features: the latest MacBooks offer incredible power thanks to Apple's own M2 Pro and M2 Max chips, which are designed to be more efficient for demanding media work such as video editing. With stunning Liquid Retina XDR displays and sleek design, these are the most desirable laptops for creatives.

Price history: This is the lowest price we've seen on the new MacBook Pro 16, and Amazon also currently has the lowest price on record for the smaller 14in model. MacBook discounts do get bigger than this – Adorama currently has $400 off the 2021 M1 Max MacBook Pro 16, but that's been out for more than 18 months and still costs $2,699 with the discount.

Price comparison: $2,499 at Best Buy | $2,499 at Adorama

Reviews: The 2023 MacBook Pros received almost universally spectacular reviews. We gave the 16in model five stars, describing it as an unbeatable laptop that refines both power and performance. We really couldn't find anything not to like.

Also consider:
For more power: MacBook Pro 16 M2 Pro Max from $3,499 $3,249.
For more portability: MacBook Pro 14 M2 Pro 1TB: $2,499 to $2,249
