Quickly build an online portfolio

An online presence is essential for any freelancer, so art directors and potential clients can check out your portfolio. However, many designers are guilty of not taking care of this aspect of self-promotion - either they have no website at all, or one with a highly intricate design that's a pain to update (so they rarely do). However, a one-page website can be a hugely effective marketing tool, especially if it's regularly updated with your latest work.

In this project, we'll lead you through the process of creating a website from scratch using Dreamweaver, for our fictional freelance chum Mark Bennett - a Chelmsford-based designer who studied in Tokyo for five years. The emphasis is on getting something online quickly that looks professional, won't waste the time of potential clients, and is really simple to build and update. That means minimal, clean design, CSS for layout, and barely any scripts. If necessary, you could combine this with a more complex separate site, if people want to see your work in detail.
