Monochrome made easy
Creating a beautiful and dramatic piece of work in need only take a few simple actions, says senior designer Chris Malbon.
In this project we show you how to add dramatic lighting and texture effects to your work using monochrome.
By defining your shadow and highlighted areas, and pushing your grayscale tones, you can create real atmosphere in your projects.
Over the following steps we reveal some simple techniques that will produce an impressive array of effects, and add detail to your image. We demonstrate how to create depth in your work using opacity and blurs, and how, with a little imagination and time, you can transform your work by duplicating layers and transforming elements with the Warm, Twirl and Scale tools.
This project will get a little layer heavy, but we will be flattening it at the end! Let's get started...
