Create illustrations for events, editorial and companies
When you're commissioned to produce an illustration, follow Mark Verhaagen's advice on approaching the project.
I've created a variety of illustrations for commissions, as well as personal work. The first project here, Picnic, was an assignment based on personal work that combined Illustrator and Photoshop, and was created for the Picnic multimedia festival in Amsterdam. One of the key speakers was David Silverman, best known for directing numerous episodes of The Simpsons TV series.
Next is a piece for Digital Playground, an after-school scheme based in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, which offers multimedia workshops to kids aged between 13 and 19 years old. It covers digital media like photography, film, sound and web design. I was commissioned to make an illustration that included a character based on their logo design, which features a little robot.
The Mushroom Tree is a personal piece, originally made for the Fusion 5 Festival exhibition in Cannes, France. My free work often starts as a small idea or sketch, and from there I take things into Illustrator and Photoshop. I also make my favourite personal projects, such as this one, into limited edition print series.
