Working with type in Illustrator
Martin Fewell spreads the word on creating bold typographic posters.
Adobe Illustrator is an essential tool in a designer's kit. In this tutorial we are going to produce a self-promotional poster using Adobe Illustrator CS3.
Focusing on using type in Illustrator to create a bold, eye-catching message, we are going to use a 'type as image' style of typography. This style is both popular and effective for communicating strong messages visually.
To start with, we will create a grid as the basis of our design, which will give it structure and balance. Then we will create and modify our headline text - our headline will be large so we can be creative with how we alter it. Next, we'll build up some depth and texture with various techniques in Illustrator CS3 to create our typographic poster.
