30 top TV commercials
Advertising agencies are getting more creative in order to get your attention. Check out these inspirational examples of TV commercials...
21. Cow & Gate - Supergroup
We just love this new advert for Cow & Gate baby food. No sign of the brand's products anywhere, instead a group of babies fill a music recording studio in order to 'feed their personalities'.
This charming, young musical bunch were assembled together by ad agency BETC London. Already a well-known brand, the spot aims to appeal to parents - feed your baby with Cow & Gate products and they too could be covering the classic 1982 number one single Come On Eileen by Dexy’s Midnight Runners by the time they're two!
22. La Poste - Pilages
A small origami postman cycles through an gorgeous infolding world in this spot for French postal service La Poste. Paris-based studio Digital District joined forces with director Edouard Salier to create the entirely CG commercial.
There's so many impressive aspects to this spot, from the tiny detail in all the paper folds to the complex sweeping camera moves. Just brilliant.
23. British Airways - London 2012
VFX facility Framestore was behind the technical wizardry utilised in BA's Home Advantage spot earlier this year. The 60-second ad featured a Boeing 777-200 plane on a road trip from Heathrow to Stratford for the Olympics via many of London’s best-known sites.
The cool campaign came about from advertising agency BBH and director Michael Geoghagan. Hats off to the CG guys who managed to make the sight of a 65 metre wide Boeing 777 motoring around London suburbia look so convincing.
24. Gates Foundation - Family Planning
This spot is awesome in more ways that one: firstly for the message it conveys, and secondly for its high-quality animation.

The talented bunch at creative studio Gentleman Scholar created the commercial in collaboration with the Gates Foundation, filling the spot with cute characters and colourful environments to give a relatable voice to the concept of family planning.
25. Norfolk Southern - City of Possibilities
This gorgeous spot is reminiscent of scenes from Pixar's Toy Story but it's actually promoting railroad shipping company, Norfolk Southern. Created entirely by The Mill, New York, the ad seamlessly blends a host of awesome CGI characters into a live action world.
Wanting a new approach, ad agency RP3 and Norfolk Southern approached The Mill to develop and produce the child-friendly commercial. We wish our bedrooms had come alive like that when we were little!
26. IKEA - Playin' with my friends
Just last week, IKEA released this cool spot 'Playin' with my Friends' - its first music video-style TV commercial in the UK. The latest campaign for the Swedish furniture giant is all about 'bringing people together in the part season'.
Creative ad agency Mother London worked together with leading post production company The Moving Picture Company to bring all elements of the spot together.
27. Paralympics - Meet the Superhumans
Created by Channel 4's in-house agency Creative4, this striking 90-second TV ad underlined the channel's role as official broadcaster of the London 2012 Paralympic Games.
Directed by Tom Tagholm, the powerful spot showcases the strength and determination of various GB athletes. And the live-action footage is complimented perfectly by a pounding soundtrack - Public Enemy's track 'Harder Than You Think'.
28. Cadbury - Scream Egg Last Stand
WARNING: The following footage contains content that may be disturbing to some Cadbury Creme Eggs. This is the message that accompanies this awesome Halloween ad campaign by Cadbury Canada for its Scream eggs.
An epic battle between good and evil launches the green goo-filled seasonal treat, created by ad agency The Hive. Goo, goo goo goo goo goo Goopocalypse!
29. DollarShaveClub – Our Blades are F**king Great!
This hilarious spot for razor blades is simple, yet sharp (see what we did there?). OK, anyway, the ad features DollarShaveClub CEO Michael Dubin who simply explains, with a little help from his employees, that you don't need to spend $20 a month on shaving.
This ad makes a refreshing change to the usual skin-scraping razor blade adverts that appear on TV these days. Dubin made the ad himself, and shot it with his good friend and director Lucia Aniello.
30. TalkTalk - Model Britain
Rattling Stick director Danny Kleinman brings miniatures to life in this recent spot for British telecom provider TalkTalk. The heart-warming ad is set in a model village and features various characters finishing a hard day's work and rushing off home to connect with and see their loved ones.
Ad agency CHI & Partners worked closely with London-based post-production company Glassworks to bring the model world to life. John Denver fans will like the spot too, with the classic 'Annie's Song' being the accompanying soundtrack.
And as a bonus...
Bodyform - The truth
OK, so it's not a TV commerical but we just had to include this brilliant online spot. If you're looking for ways to use social media creatively then you could learn a thing or two from the creative team at Bodyform.
When a young man, Richard, wrote on the Bodyform facebook page asking why they'd lied for so many years in their advertising campaigns, they replied with this spoof video. And it's amazing. Watch it. Right now.
